Anti-Hazing Statement

 

Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. defines hazing as any action taken or situation created which recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental or physical health or safety of any person or which willfully destroys or removes public or private property for the purpose of induction or admission into or affiliation with or as a condition for continued membership in any organization operating under the sanction of or recognized as a chapter by Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc.

 

The term hazing shall include, but is not limited to, any brutality of a physical nature, such as whipping, beating, branding, forced calisthenics, exposure to the elements, forced consumption of any food, liquor, drug or other substance, or any other forced activity which could adversely affect the physical health and safety of an individual, and shall include any activity which would subject the individual to extreme mental stress, such as sleep deprivation, forced exclusion from social contact, forced conduct which could result in extreme embarrassment, or any other forced activity which could adversely affect the mental health or dignity of the individual or any willful destruction or removal of public or private property.

 

For the purpose of this definition, any activity as described in this definition upon which the induction or admission into or affiliation with or continued membership in an organization is directly or indirectly conditioned shall be presumed to be forced activity, the willingness of an individual to participate in such activity notwithstanding.

 

Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. recognizes its responsibility to assume an affirmative action program and aggressively works to protect members from hazing and other unlawful acts that might arise during the intake process. As a result, we affirm the importance of recognizing the individual value and the worth of each member into every facet of sorority life. All acts of hazing or harassment, both physical and mental, shall be expressly prohibited at all times and at all places where members of Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. are gathered. A woman will not be subject to any act of hazing or harassment in connection with or during her induction into membership into the Sorority.

 

Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. does not consent to, condone, suggest, or tolerate any act of hazing, harassment or humiliation during the membership intake process; nor will the Sorority be responsible or liable for any damages, claims or actions based upon the conduct of any individuals, groups or associations purporting to perform any acts in the name of the Sorority or purported to be in any way connected with induction into membership in the Sorority.

 

Penalties:

 

Any chapter violating any of the above-delineated paragraphs will be penalized by:

Denial of membership intake by the Membership Chair upon approval of the Board of Directors;

Suspension by the Membership Chair upon approval of the Board of Directors.
